Why AI Belongs in a Conversation About Community Development
By Ajiboshin Symposium
There is a temptation to treat artificial intelligence as a subject for technologists, community development as a subject for NGOs, and national leadership as a subject for politicians. This edition of the symposium rejects that separation.
AI is already deciding who gets a loan, who is shortlisted for a job, and whose voice reaches an audience. Those decisions land in communities long before they are debated in policy circles. If the people who lead communities are not part of the conversation about how these systems are built and governed, the conversation is incomplete.
Equally, national leadership determines whether this transition is governed or simply absorbed. The choices made in the next few years, on data, on skills, on infrastructure, will decide whether Nigerian communities are participants in this economy or subjects of it.
That is the conversation we are convening.
